4 goal flurry in 2nd gives Mustangs 5-3win (Morrisville Story) 

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville women's hockey team exploded for four goals in the second period Friday afternoon, leading the Mustangs to a 5-3 NEWHL win over visiting SUNY Potsdam in their home finale in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: 

  • Host SUNY Morrisville women's hockey picked up a 5-3 NEWHL win in their home finale Friday afternoon, exploding for four tallies in the second period as they took down visiting SUNY Potsdam in league play in Morrisville. 
  • Playing to a scoreless first period, Morrisville put the first tally on the board midway through the second, netting the unassisted power play score off the stick of Allie Davidson (Niagara Falls, Ont.) for the 1-0 lead. 
  • Hailee Easson (Okotoks, Alta.) added to the lead with a second power play goal at the 16:13 mark off the feed from Kendra Johnston (St. Alberta, Alta.) for the 2-0 advantage. 
  • Potsdam was able to get one back off the wrister at the 17:16 mark but Morrisville would add two more to their total to send the game into the second intermission with a 4-1 advantage. 
  • Rhys Brown (Kemptville, Ont.) poked one past the Bears netminder at the 18:48 mark as Logyn Nyitrai (Acton, Ont.) recorded the assist. 
  • Alana McDonald (Potsdam, N.Y.) backhanded one of her own for the fourth Mustang score with 24.1 ticks to go before intermission, with Emily Olson (Lloydminster, Alta.) and Johnston collecting assists. 
  • Morrisville was able to maintain the three-goal advantage and held onto the lead despite two late Potsdam tallies, before putting the game away with an empty net score at 19:37.3 off the stick of Allie Davidson. 
  • Maggie Jones (Marystown, N.L.) turned away 29 in the win between the pipes for the Mustangs in 53 minutes of action. 
  • Elizabeth Timby (Getzville, N.Y.) posted five in the final seven minutes in relief.
