Plattsburgh, Oswego 1-2 in NEWHL preseason poll

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The head coaches of the Northeast Women's Hockey League have unanimously selected Plattsburgh as the favorite to reclaim the 2021-22 NEWHL Championship.

The Cardinals earned the maximum amount of points (49) by collecting all seven first-place votes. Oswego finished second in the preseason ranking by earning 42 points and claiming all seven second-place votes.

Cortland (34), Morrisville (25) and Canton (22) finished third through fifth, respectively, while Potsdam (16) was picked sixth and Buffalo State (8) seventh.

The preseason predicted order of finish was voted on by the head coaches of the NEWHL with the first-place team earning seven points and the last-place team receiving one. Coaches were permitted to vote for their own club.

The NEWHL begins its fourth season – and first in two years - on Friday, Oct. 29, when six teams kickoff their schedules with non-conference contests. The league opener features Morrisville visiting Potsdam (3 p.m.) on Friday, Nov. 5.
