Plattsburgh preseason favorite in NEWHL

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The head coaches of the Northeast Women's Hockey League have unanimously selected Plattsburgh as the favorite to claim the inaugural NEWHL Championship.

The Cardinals garnered all five first-place votes in accumulating the maximum total of 25 points in the first preseason poll conducted by the conference.

The preseason predicted order of finish was voted on by the head coaches of the NEWHL with the first-place team getting five points and the last-place team receiving one.

Oswego was picked to finish second with 19 points, while Buffalo State was tabbed a close third with 16. Potsdam (10) and Cortland (5) rounded out the preseason predictions.

The NEWHL begins conference play this weekend when Plattsburgh travels to Cortland for a pair of contests on Friday and Saturday afternoon, Nov. 3-4, while Potsdam visits Buffalo State on Friday night and Saturday afternoon.

This season each team will play 16 conference games – four vs. each opponent with two at home and two away.

The NEWHL opened up its inaugural season with nine non-conference games Oct. 27-29 by posting a 6-2-1 combined mark.
