Red Dragons tie single-season victory record (Cortland Story)

CANTON, N.Y. – The Cortland women's ice hockey team tied the single-season wins record with a 3-1 victory at Canton Friday afternoon in NEWHL action. The Red Dragons improved to 18-6 overall and 13-4 in the conference and equaled the overall win mark set last season. The Kangaroos fell to 13-9-2 and 7-9-1.

Freshman Ainsley Delacourt (Stoney Creek, ON/Brampton Canadettes) recorded a goal and an assist, and graduate student Grace Schnorr (Camilluys/Little Caesars) and sophomore Mia Hlasnick (Olean/Nigara Jr. Purple Eagles) each added a goal. Senior Dany Donegan (Cicero/Syracuse Nationals) collected two assists, while junior Jillian Hlasnick (Olean/Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles) and sophomore Gillian Zwolak (Stoney Creek, ON/Ancaster Avalanche) chipped in with an assist. Sophomore goalie Molly Goergen (Eden Prairie, MN/Eden Prairie H.S.) made 21 saves.

Matihlde Couture scored Canton's goal with Iida Laitinen and Danika Lalonde assisting. Goalie Sirena Alvarez registered 31 saves.

Mia Hlasnick opened the scoring at 12:06 of the first period. Jillian Hlasnick fed a pass to Zwolak at the left point who fired a shot toward the goal that Mia Hlasnick deflected. Alvarez made the save, but Hlasnick slipped the rebound between her pads for her 13th goal of the season. Delacourt put the Red Dragons ahead, 2-0, at the 18:17 mark when she took a pass from Donegan inside the blue line and sent a wrist shot over the glove of Alvarez.

Couture pulled Canton to within 2-1 at 4:36 of the second period with a power-play goal, scoring on a one-time slap shot from the right point on Goergen's glove side. The Red Dragons went ahead, 3-1, at 9:27 of the third period on Schnorr's 10th goal of the season. Delacourt slid a pass to Schnorr at the right point who skated to the top of the circle and beat Alvarez with a wrist shot through traffic on the power play. Canton pulled Alvarez for an extra skater with 13 seconds remaining, but Cortland when the ensuing faceoff and cleared the puck from its defensive zone to seal the 3-1 victory.
