OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Cortland women's ice hockey team scored a pair of third-period goals in defeating Oswego, 2-0, Friday night in NEWHL action. With the win, the Red Dragons improved to 16-6 overall and 11-4 in the conference and moved into second place in the league standings. The Lakers dropped to 13-10-1 and 10-6-1.

Graduate student Quinn Metcalfe (Rochester/Rochester Monarchs) and sophomore Meggan Cramer (Cicero/Northwood School) scored Cortland's goals. Senior Dany Donegan (Cicero/Syracuse Nationals), junior Jillian Hlasnick (Olean/Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles) and sophomores Beth McArthur (Peterborough, ON/Lawrence University) and Mia Hlasnick (Olean/Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles) each recorded an assist.

Sophomore goalie Molly Goergen (Eden Prairie, MN/Eden Prairie H.S.) made 28 saves in posting her eighth shutout of the season. Goalie Lexi Levy stopped 32 shots for Oswego.

After two scoreless periods, kept that way when Goergen denied a Laker breakaway in the first period, Cramer scored the game-winning goal 1:34 into the third period when she scored with a wrist shot from the bottom of the right circle off a feed from behind the end line. Metcalfe scored an insurance goal on the power play at the 10:06 mark. McArthur fired the puck off the end boards from the left point. The puck caromed out to Donegan whose shot was denied by Levy, but Metcalfe cleaned up the rebound at the left side of the crease.

The Lakers earned a power-play chance with five minutes remaining but could not capitalize. Oswego then pulled Levy for an extra skater with 1:05 on the clock. The Red Dragons held off late pressure to secure the 2-0 win.
