Box Score

POTSDAM, N.Y. – Senior forward Ivy Boric (Newport Beach, Calif./Anaheim Lady Ducks) recorded her 100th career point, as the No. 4 Plattsburgh State women's ice hockey team scored four goals in the second period to stretch its winning streak to 10 with a 5-0 Northeast Women's Hockey League (NEWHL) victory over SUNY Potsdam on Saturday afternoon at Maxcy Ice Arena.

Plattsburgh State is ranked at No. 4 in the DCU/USCHO.com Women's Division III Top-15 Poll.

Boric's 100th career point came at the exact midway mark of the second period, as she scored on a loose puck along the right post. She joins graduate student forwards Sara Krauseneck (Saginaw, Mich./Northern Cyclones) and Nicole Unsworth (Milwaukee, Wis./East Coast Wizards) as other Cardinals who have reached the 100-point plateau this season.

The Cardinals finished with a 54-14 edge in shots on goal and went 2-for-4 on the power play. The Bears were scoreless in two chances with the extra skater.

Plattsburgh State rises to 18-2-0 overall (12-1-0 NEWHL) with the win and faces a critical NEWHL series from Friday-Saturday, Feb. 3-4, against SUNY Cortland at the Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena. The Cardinals open up the weekend on Friday at 7 p.m. Potsdam falls to 9-10-0 overall (4-8-0 NEWHL) with the loss and next hosts SUNY Morrisville on Friday, Feb. 3, at 7 p.m.

After a scoreless first period in which the Cardinals held a 13-5 edge in shots on goal, Krauseneck put the visitors on the board with a power-play goal 1:10 into the second. Junior forward Mae Olshansky (Wilmette, Ill./North American Hockey Academy) passed back to sophomore defenseman Mattie Norton (Glen Carbon, Ill./St. Louis Lady Blues) on the right point, and Norton skated into the right circle before taking a shot that was saved. Krauseneck was on the doorstep to bang in the rebound, taking over the team lead in goals for the season with 13.

Plattsburgh State capitalized on a power-play chance a few minutes later, as first-year defenseman Taya Balfour (Moorestown, N.J./Philadelphia Jr. Flyers) netted her second collegiate goal at 4:39 of the second. Senior defenseman Kendall Wasik (Novi, Mich./HoneyBaked) passed to senior forward Julia Masotta (Tewksbury, Mass./Norwich University) in the right circle, and Masotta took a shot that was turned aside with a pad save. The rebound caromed out to Balfour in the left circle, and Balfour clapped a one-time shot over the goalie's blocker.

Boric's 100th career point at 10:00 of the second period extended the Cardinals' lead to 3-0. Masotta took control of a loose puck in the slot and took a shot that was saved. The Potsdam goalie was sprawled out in the crease trying to freeze the puck, but Boric tapped it in along the right post. Krauseneck also earned an assist on the play.

Sophomore forward Riley Calhoun (New Hartford, N.Y./Bishop Kearney Selects) capped off a four-goal second period for Plattsburgh State at 12:20 of the second. First-year forward Emma McLean (Burlington, Mass./Pomfret School) took control of a Norton stretch pass at the Bears' blue line, and after skating into the left circle, she centered a pass to Calhoun. The puck initially deflected up off the blade of Calhoun's stick before Calhoun banged a shot into the back of the net once it landed back on the ice.

Unsworth added further insurance at 5:31 of the third. Olshansky passed to junior forward Ciara Wall (Stoneham, Mass./University of New Hampshire) along the back wall, and Wall fed Unsworth in the slot from the right goal line extended. Unsworth scored on a one-time shot high blocker side to balloon the lead to 5-0.

Graduate student goaltender Ashley Davis (Winterville, N.C./Northwood School) posted a 14-save shutout for Plattsburgh State in her first appearance of the season, while junior goaltender Ellie Zurfluh turned aside 49 shots in the loss for Potsdam.
