Red Dragons outlast Potsdam 4-1 (Cortland Story)

POTSDAM, N.Y. – Four different players scored goals as the Cortland women's ice hockey team skated past Potsdam, 4-1, in NEWHL action Friday afternoon at Maxcy Ice Arena. The Red Dragons improved to 14-4 overall and 9-2 in the league. The Bears fell to 9-9 and 4-6.

Graduate student Quinn Metcalfe (Rochester/Rochester Monarchs) recorded a goal and an assist for Cortland, while graduate student Emily Kromer (Angola/Nazareth College) and seniors Dany Donegan (Cicero/Syracuse Nationals) and Jayden Kelley (East Berne/CP Dynamo) each added a goal. Graduate student Grace Schnorr (Camillus/Little Caesars) registered three assists, freshman Ainsley Delacourt (Stoney Creek, ON/Brampton Canadettes) collected two assists and sophomore Beth McArthur (Peterborough, ON/Lawrence University) and freshman Kayla Persinger (Youngstown/Newark Ironbound) chipped in with one assist. Sophomore goalie Molly Goergen (Eden Prairie, MN/Eden Prairie H.S.) made 17 saves.

Megan Teachout scored her sixth goal of the season for Potsdam. Lyvia Chambers and goaltender Magalie Parent assisted on the goal. Parent registered 28 saves in the game.

Donegan gave Cortland a 1-0 lead 2:58 into the game with her sixth goal of the season on a deflection in front off a shot from the left point by Delacourt after Cortland kept the puck in Potsdam's defensive zone. Kromer made it a 2-0 game at 9:45, scoring from the left circle on a partial breakaway with a shot over Parent's shoulder for her third goal. Teachout cut Potsdam's deficit to 2-1 on the power play at 12:16, skating from the Bears' defensive zone, up the left boards before cutting into the middle of the ice and sneaking a shot past Goergen that trickled over the goal line.

Metcalfe's second goal of the season with 3:01 remaining in the second period came on the power play as she deflected in a shot by Schnorr from the right point. Kelley's power-play goal on a one-time shot from the slot, her third score of the season, pushed the lead to 4-1 at 2:24 of the third period. The Red Dragons took a penalty with 2:32 left in regulation, and the Bears recorded two shots on goal before pulling Parent for an extra skater with 1:11 on the clock. Potsdam managed two more shots on goal that Goergen denied as Cortland earned the 4-1 victory.
