CORTLAND, N.Y. – The nationally seventh-ranked Hamilton women's ice hockey team scored four unanswered goals i earning a 5-1 victory at Cortland Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at Alumni Arena. The Red Dragons dropped to 12-4 overall. The Continentals improved to 12-3.
Junior Jillian Hlasnick (Olean/Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles) scored Cortland's goal with sophomore Mia Hlasnick (Olean/Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles) picking up an assist. Sophomore Molly Goergen (Eden Prairie, MN/Eden Prairie H.S.) started in goal, stopping 21 shots through two periods. Junior Anna Hamid (Mineola/New Jersey Colonials) turned aside three shots in the third period.
Seniors Abby Kuhns (Skaneateles/Mid-Fairfield Stars) and Nancy Loh (Syracuse/Syracuse Nationals) and junior Claire McGennis (Buffalo/RIT) each tallied a goal and an assist for Hamilton. Seniors Allie Curry (Grasonville, MD/Washington Pride) and Hyla Mosher (Hudson, QC/The Hotchkiss School) netted a goal, while six players collected an assist. Freshman goalie Cate Gallagher (Easton, MA/Massachusetts Spitfires) made 13 saves.
Kuhns gave the Continentals the lead at 5:22 of the first period, scoring from the high slot through traffic on the power play. Jillian Hlasnick tied the game at 12:42 with her eighth goal of the season. Mia Hlasnick blocked a shot inside Cortland's blue line and fed a pass to her older sister, who scored on a breakaway.
Hamilton netted three goals in the second period to open up a 4-1 lead. Mosher and Curry scored rebound goals at 2:08 and 7:12, respectively, and McGennis scored on a deflection at 15:47.
In a tightly played third period in which the teams combined for only six shots on goal, Loh completed the scoring at 10:32 on a wrist shot from the left circle inside the right post for the 5-1 final.
