CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Cortland women's ice hockey team scored a goal in each period in defeating Canton, 3-1, Friday night in NEWHL action at Alumni Arena. The Red Dragons improved to 10-3 overall and 7-2 in the conference, while the Kangaroos fell to 11-2-2 and 5-2-1.

Graduate student Quinn Metcalfe (Rochester/Rochester Monarchs), freshmen Fanny Aneborn (Linkoping, Sweden/Lulea HF Sweden) and Ainsley Delacourt (Stoney Creek, ON/Brampton Canadettes) netted goals for Cortland. Graduate students Johna Ezzard (Vienna, VA/Dallas Stars Elite) and Emily Kromer (Angola/Nazareth College) and senior Dany Donegan (Cicero/Syracuse Nationals) collected one assist apiece. Sophomore goalie Molly Goergen (Eden Prairie, MN/Eden Prairie H.S.) made 20 saves.

Sophomore Karena Barrett (Westminster, CA/Anaheim Lady Ducks) scored for Canton. Freshman Danika Lalonde (Sudbury, ON/Barrie Jr. Sharks) assisted on the goal. Senior goalie Sirena Alvarez (Jyvaskyla, Finland/Banff Hockey Academy) registered 29 saves.

Metcalfe gave Cortland a 1-0 lead at 11:37 of the opening period with her first goal of the season. She collected the puck in Cortland's defensive third, skated into Canton's end and fired a wrist shot past Alvarez from the right circle.

Aneborn's seventh goal of the season made it a 2-0 game at 8:37 of the second period. Ezzard stole an outlet pass just inside the blue line and fed a pass into the slot where Aneborn deflected the puck past Alvarez. Barrett's power-play goal on a rebound in front at 13:15 of the period pulled the Kangaroos to within 2-1.

Delacourt netted an insurance goal at 15:21 of the third period, scoring from the left circle with a wrist shot after the Red Dragons were able to keep the puck in their offensive zone. Canton pulled Alvarez for an extra skater with 3:02 remaining but could not score the equalizer as Cortland sealed the 3-1 victory.
