BOX SCORE

THE BASICS

  • Result: SUNY Canton 0, Oswego State 0
  • Location: Deborah F. Stanley Arena & Convocation Hall – Oswego, NY
  • Records: SUNY Canton (11-1-2, 5-1-1) | Oswego State (9-5-1, 7-2-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Oswego controlled most of play in the first period, outshooting the Roos 11-2.
  • The Roos almost cashed in on their first goal midway through the second period when a Hannah Clement shot rebounded to junior Desiree Snook who almost tucked it past the outstretched pad of Laker goaltender Lexi Levi.  But Levi was up to the task and the game remained scoreless.
  • SUNY Canton was able to match the play of the Lakers in the third period, only trailing in shots 14-11.
  • An early penalty in overtime would test Alvarez and the Roo penalty killers.  But the Canton keeper made two big saves and Snook blocked another shot attempt to help keep the game knotted at nil.
  • With less than two minutes remaining in overtime the officials whistled another penalty on the Roos.  This time Alvarez made three stops and got successive blocks from juniors Iida Laitinen and Makayla Young to preserve her shutout as time expired.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • The shutout is Alvarez's third on the season and the 11th of her career.  She is just one shy of tying Brooke Susac's ('20) record of 12 in a career.
  • The Roos currently sit in fourth place in the NEWHL standings, just two points shy of Oswego and Cortland with two games in hand.
  • This was the first time the women's program tied the Lakers.  They have never defeated Oswego State.
  • Levi finished the game with 20 saves for the Lakers.
