Cortland blanks Morrisville 6-0

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Graduate student Grace Schnorr (Camillus/Little Caesars) tallied a goal and three assists an sophomore goalie Molly Goergen (Eden Prairie, MN/Eden Prairie H.S.) turned aside 21 shots as the Cortland women's ice hockey team defeated Morrisville, 6-0, in NEWHL action Saturday afternoon at Alumni Arena.

Schnorr established two milestones in the game. Her four points give her 101 for her career on 58 goals and 43 assists, becoming the first player in program history to hit the century mark for points. She also took over the career lead in assists, breaking a tie she held with Judy Ellis who recorded 40 from 2003-07. Goergen set the career record for shutouts, registering her ninth in just one and a half seasons. She broke a tie she held with Chelsea Allain, who had eight shutouts from 2017-20.

Junior Kait Bourgeois (Cobden, ON/Ottawa Thunder) and sophomore Mia Hlasnick (Olean/Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles) each tallied a goal and two assists for the Red Dragons (8-3, 6-2 NEWHL), senior Dany Donegan (Cicero/Syracuse Nationals) recorded a goal and an assist and graduate student Jayden Kelley (East Berne/CP Dynamo) and freshman Ainsley Delacourt (Stoney Creek, ON/Brampton Canadettes) netted one goal apiece. Graduate student Emily Kromer (Angola/Nazareth College) collected two assists, while senior Molly McCabe (Webster/18UAA Webster) contributed an assist and freshman Ellie Grinnals (Syracuse/Syracuse Valley Eagles) picked up her first career point with an assist.

Freshman Maggie Jones (Marystown, NL/Mount Academy) started in goal for the Mustangs (3-11-1, 0-8 NEWHL), making 25 saves through the first two periods. Sophomore Elizabeth Timby (Getzville/Buffalo Bisons) registered 13 saves in the third period.

Kelley gave Cortland the lead with a power-play goal at 9:53 of the opening period, flipping the puck over Jones. Delacourt made it a 2-0 score at 19:37, scoring on the right side of the crease as Schnorr notched her record-setting 41st assist.

Bourgeois' power-play goal on a wrist shot from the left point at 6:17 of the second period put the Red Dragons up, 3-0, Schnorr then scored her 100th career point on a deflection in the slot on the player advantage at the 14:12 mark to make it a 4-0 game.

Hlasnick's rebound goal in front made it a 5-0 score 43 seconds into the third period before Donegan finished the scoring at 16:42 with Cortland's fifth power-play goal of the game on a loose puck in front for the 6-0 final. Goergen closed out her record-setting shutout with five third-period saves.
