Cortland edges Morrisville in overtime 2-1

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Freshman Ainsley Delacourt (Stoney Creek, ON/Brampton Canadettes) scored one minute, 55 seconds into overtime to lift the Cortland women's ice hockey team to a 2-1 victory at Morrisville Friday afternoon in NEWHL action. The Red Dragons improved to 7-3 overall and 5-2 in the conference. The Mustangs dropped to 3-10-1 and 0-7.

Junior Kait Bourgeois (Cobden, ON/Ottawa Thunder) also netted a goal for Cortland. Delacourt, graduate student Jayden Kelley (East Berne/CP Dynamo), senior Molly McCabe (Webster/18UAA Webster) and sophomore Mia Hlasnick (Olean/Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles) each collected assists. Sophomore goalie Molly Goergen (Eden Prairie, MN/Eden Prairie H.S.) made 17 saves.

Emily Olson scored Morrisville's goal with Alana McDonald and Emma Thomson assisting. Goalie Maggie Jones registered 32 saves.

Bourgeois gave the Red Dragons a 1-0 lead at 9:14 of the first period with her fifth goal of the season. Hlasnick sent a pass from the left boards to a cutting Bourgeois who wristed a shot inside the left post from the top of the right circle.

After a scoreless second period, Olson tied the game at 5:35 of the third period. McDonald broke down the right side on a two-on-one a took a shot that Goergen saved. Olson jumped on the rebound and sent a shot into the empty net.

In overtime, Cortland controlled most of the play, outshooting the Mustangs 3-0. The winning goal came when McCabe kept the puck alive behind Morrisville's end line. Kelley possessed the puck on the left side and slipped a pass to Delacourt in the slot where she wristed in the game winner for the 2-1 final.
