HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Roos got on the board first off an offensive zone face off win. Karena Barrett won the puck back to Lalonde to her right. Lalonde fed it back to Garofalo at the point who went D to D to Mathilde Couture at the left point. Couture fired a slapshot through traffic that made its way high over the shoulder of Panther netminder Amelia Julian for the early lead at the 3:04 mark of the first period.
  • Canton doubled its lead just over two minutes later. Lalonde worked the puck free at the near boards to the right of the right circle back to Garofalo at the right point. Garofalo wristed a shot towards the front of net where a cutting Lalonde redirected the puck high past Julian.
  • The Roos continued the strong first period when Garofalo played a beautiful pass from her defensive zone to a changing Iida Laitinen in on the breakaway as she beat Julian high over the stick side. Canton dominated shots 17-8 in the opening period and took a 3-0 lead to first intermission.
  • Canton extended its lead to 4-0 just 1:09 into the middle period when Asha Hanson played the puck D to D to Jane Pancoe at the left point. She passed the puck down low to Alexia Labre who used a nifty redirect to get by the Panther goaltender.
  • Plymouth State got one back just 27 seconds later off the stick of Emily DeSimone and added a power play goal at 14:03 of the second period to get within 4-2 after two periods. The Panthers added a third goal, once again scoring with the skater advantage, to get within one with 5:03 remaining in regulation.
  • The Panthers pulled the goalie with 1:21 remaining and Sirena Alvarez made four saves to help stave off the comeback bid.
