Oswego defeats Hamilton, runs winning streak to 7

CLINTON, N.Y.  –  The Oswego State Women's Hockey team defeated the Hamilton Continentals on Sunday to continue their seven-game win streak that stretches all the way back to November 4. Kensie Malone and Mack Hull scored the go-ahead goal late in the third period to give the Lakers an overall 7-3 record.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • With two minutes remaining in the first period, Hamilton scored to take a 1-0 lead.
  • Despite the scoreless first period, the Lakers out shot the Continentals 13-10.
  • Lexi Levy had seven saves during the first period.
  • In the second period, the Lakers continued their penalty kill success by effectively neutralizing a Hamilton power play.
  • With 2:12 left in the second period, Rachel Corbetttied the game at one with her first goal of the season.
  • Entering the third period, both teams were relatively even on the stat sheet, with 17 faceoff wins apiece.
  • After a lengthy and unexplained conversation between the officials and then the officials and the Continentals with 6:27 remaining in the third period, Mack Hull threw a centering pass that bounced off of Kensie Malone that went in the net, giving the Lakers a 2-1 lead and Malone her first goal of the season with 6:13 remaining. Avery Webster, along with Hull, got credit for assists.
  • With about two minutes remaining, Hamilton pulled their goalie, but the Lakers kept the Continentals off balance for the rest of the game, and exited the Russell Sage Rink with a 2-1 victory.
  • Lexi Levy continued her dominance in the net with 23 saves. Late in the game, she fended off shot after shot.
  • The Lakers also closed shooting lanes during the game, with the team blocking 18 shots.

The women will travel to Western New York to face the Buffalo State Bengals at 4:00 pm on December 2, looking to make it eight wins in a row.
