HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Lakers had a great chance early on just under three minutes in when the Roos were whistled for a hooking penalty on a breakaway as Oswego was awarded a penalty shot. Sirena Alvarez came up big stopping the penalty shot by Morgan Shines to keep things scoreless.
  • Oswego was able to convert at the 15:47 mark of the opening period as Kaylen Taddia backhanded a pass to Myah Booth in the high slot as she wristed a shot past the blocker of Alvarez inside the left post. The Lakers held a slim 10-7 shots advantage in the opening period taking a 1-0 lead into first intermission.
  • The Roos drew even at 2:11 of the middle period. Jayme McIlveen and Danika Lalonde worked 2-on-1 to free the puck behind the net. Lalonde played a pass to Couture at the left point as she fired a slapshot past Oswego goaltender Lexi Levy, who was screened by McIlveen out in front.
  • The Lakers regained the lead at 10:16 with the skater advantage as they kept the puck inside their offensive zone. Rheya Zemlak played a pass from the right to left point to Avery Webster who wristed a shot past the blocker of Alvarez. Ashlyn McGrath also picked up an assist on the play. Oswego outshot the Roos 15-7 in the second period taking a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes.
  • The visitors added an important insurance goal scoring once again on the power play at 5:01 of the third period. Webster's shot from the left point went off the back boards right to the left post as McGrath put home the puck off the odd bounce. Zemiak also picked up an assist on the play.
  • Canton pulled Alvarez for the extra skater with 1:19 remaining and got a shot on goal but was whistled for a penalty. The Lakers added their third power play goal of the game with 15 seconds remaining off the stick of Kyleigh Grugin.
