Cortland blanks Stevenson 7-0

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The nationally 14th-ranked Cortland women's ice hockey team broke open a close game with four third-period goals and defeated Stevenson University, 7-0, Friday afternoon at Alumni Arena in non-conference action in the season-opener for the Red Dragons.

Juniors Kait Bourgeois (Cobden, ON/Ottawa Thunder) and Jillian Hlasnick (Olean/Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles) led Cortland with two goals each. Graduate student Emily Kromer (Angola/Nazareth College) and sophomore Meggan Cramer (Cicero/Northwood School) tallied one goal and one assist apiece, while junior Nicole Tulowiecki (Syracuse/Syracuse Nationals) netted a goal.

Senior Dany Donegan (Cicero/Syracuse Nationals) recorded three assists, sophomore Gillian Zwolak (Stoney Creek, ON/Ancaster Avalanche) collected two assists and senior Molly McCabe (Webster/18UAA Webster) and sophomore Mia Hlasnick (Olean/Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles) each chipped in with an assist for Cortland.

Sophomore goalie Molly Goergen (Eden Prairie, MN/Eden Prairie H.S.) made 19 saves for the Red Dragons. Sophomore goalie Olivia DeGuire (Jericho/Ironbound) registered 52 saves for the Mustangs (2-1).

Bourgeois gave Cortland a 2-0 lead after the first period with a power-play goal from the right point at 3:52 and a second goal from the same spot at 7:32. Kromer's goal at 19:09 of the second period made it a 3-0 game.

The Red Dragons took control of the game with their four third-period goals. Hlasnick scored an unassisted goal at 7:18, and Cramer scored on a rebound at 9:09. Hlasnick's second goal on a partial breakaway at 12:59 pushed the lead to 6-0 before Tulowiecki completed the scoring with a deflection in front at 14:01 for the 7-0 final.

The same teams meet on Saturday at 3 p.m.
