HOW IT HAPPENED

  • SUNY Canton held a 13-5 shots advantage in the opening period but Alvernia goaltender Julia Beaven made 13 saves to keep the game scoreless.
  • The Golden Wolves got on the board first just 44 seconds into the middle period with the skater advantage.
  • The Roos knotted things up at 11:35 of the second when Gracyn Emmerton won a face off at the left circle and fired a shot just inside the left post. Her first goal of the season came shorthanded as the Roos were 19 seconds into a penalty kill.
  • Canton dominated shots 20-9 in the second period as the teams were tied after 40 minutes.
  • The hosts regained the one-goal advantage with 4:09 remaining in regulation.
  • The Roos called timeout and pulled the goalie with 1:41 to play. That paid off with just 15 seconds remaining as Hannah Clement picked up a loose puck off a blocked shot and slid a wrist shot past Beaven from below the right circle to tie things up. Mathilde Couture and Danika Lalonde picked up assists on the play after an offensive zone faceoff win from Iida Laitinen.
  • Canton had great opportunities to win it but Beaven stopped all eight shots she faced in overtime to help preserve the tie. This season the home team has the option of conducting a penalty shootout after a tie after 65 minutes of action, but the game still ends as a tie after a five-minute overtime. The Golden Wolves won the ensuing shootout, 2-0.
