Plattsburgh hosts Colby in NCAA Quarterfinals on March 12

 – The Plattsburgh State women's hockey team will host Colby College in the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Division III Tournament on Saturday, March 12, at 3 p.m., as the Cardinals begin their quest for their eighth national championship and their sixth in the past seven seasons. Plattsburgh State remains the reigning national champion from its 2019 title, as the Cardinals were the top seed in the 2020 NCAA Tournament that was canceled prior to the quarterfinal round due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2021 NCAA Tournament was also canceled due to the pandemic.

Plattsburgh State (24-2-1), which qualified as the automatic qualifier out of the Northeast Women's Hockey League (NEWHL), is making its 17th appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Cardinals topped SUNY Cortland, 4-3, in overtime in the NEWHL Tournament championship game on Saturday, March 5, to earn the NEWHL's automatic bid into the tournament.
 
Colby (16-5-1), which qualified as an at-large selection, is making its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Mules were edged by Amherst College, 2-1, in overtime in the semifinal round of the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Tournament on Saturday, March 5.

The winner of the game between Plattsburgh State and Colby will play one of the tournament's four westernmost teams in the semifinal round on Friday, March 18. The University of Wisconsin-River Falls hosts Aurora College and Gustavus Adolphus College hosts the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in the first round on Wednesday, March 9, with the winners to meet in the semifinal round on Saturday, March 12. On the other side of the bracket, Middlebury College hosts Endicott College and Nazareth College hosts Endicott College in the other quarterfinal games.
