PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The No. 2 Plattsburgh State women's ice hockey team stretched its winning streak to eight games, scoring four unanswered goals to defeat Oswego State, 4-1, in non-conference action at the Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena on Saturday.

Plattsburgh State is ranked at No. 2 in the DCU/USCHO.com Women's Division III Top-10 Poll.

Senior forward Sara Krauseneck (Saginaw, Mich./Northern Cyclones) finished with a goal and an assist, while graduate student defenseman Erin McArdle (Macomb, Mich./Belle Tire) and senior forward Nicole Unsworth (Milwaukee, Wis./East Coast Wizards) each dished out two assists.

The Cardinals wound up going 1-for-2 on the power play, while the Lakers were 0-for-5 with the extra attacker. Plattsburgh State held a 34-26 edge in shots on goal as well.

Plattsburgh State rises to 14-2-0 overall with the win and, barring any shuffling of make-up dates of postponed contests between now and then, next visits SUNY Cortland from Friday-Saturday, Feb. 4-5. Oswego falls to 8-6-1 overall with the loss and next visits William Smith College on Tuesday, Jan. 25, at 8 p.m.

Oswego opened scoring at 2:24 of the first period, burying a goal on a delayed penalty call. First-year defenseman Lauren Schell passed to first-year forward Simone Bednarik in the neutral zone, and alone in the attacking zone with four Cardinal defenders around her, she drew a penalty. First-year forward Ashlyn McGrath picked up the puck and skated around the back of the net before scoring short side from the left circle.

Senior forward Taylor Whitney (Livonia, Mich./Little Caesars) leveled the score at 8:46 of the first. Krauseneck took a shot that was saved, and Unsworth picked up the puck along the back wall. She then sent a puck out in front to Whitney, who one-timed a shot past the Laker netminder from the low slot.

Krauseneck scored what wound up being the game winner on the power play at 7:38 of the second. Graduate student forward Annie Katonka (Pittsburgh, Pa./Pittsburgh Penguins Elite) won an offensive-zone face-off back to McArdle on the left point, and while McArdle took a shot that got redirected in traffic, Krauseneck banged the puck in from the right side of the crease.

Junior forward Ivy Boric (Newport Beach, Calif./Anaheim Lady Ducks) extended the lead to 3-1 with 1:28 to go in the second period. McArdle helped force a turnover in the neutral zone, and she passed out to Boric on the right wing. Boric then wristed a shot from the right circle that trickled through the five-hole of the goalie.

Finally, at 3:55 of the third period, sophomore forward Mae Olshansky (Wilmette, Ill./North American Hockey Academy) added an insurance goal. An aggressive forecheck led to Unsworth picking off a Laker pass in their own zone, and Unsworth drew the Oswego goaltender out by taking the puck behind the goal line, allowing Olshansky to score into an empty net.

Senior goaltender Ashley Davis (Winterville, N.C./Northwood School) made 25 stops in the win for the Cardinals, while sophomore goaltender Joanna Hiebert turned aside 30 shots in the loss for the Lakers.
