Cortland skates by Wesleyan 2-1

MIDDLETOWN, CONN. – The Cortland women's ice hockey team skated to a 2-1 victory at Wesleyan University Tuesday night in non-conference action in a game rescheduled from earlier this season. The Red Dragons improved to 12-3 with the win, while the Cardinals fell to 6-4. Their first three losses came against nationally ranked teams.

Senior Amanda Gaffney (Williamsville/Amherst Knights) and junior Dany Donegan (Cicero/Syracuse Nationals) scored goals for Cortland. Graduate students Grace Schnorr (Camillus/Little Caesars) and Katie DeVoe (Mississauga, ON/Vaughan Flames), senior Emily Kromer (Angola/Nazareth College) and freshman Meggan Cramer (Cicero/Northwood School) each recorded assists. Freshman goalie Molly Goergen (Eden Prairie, MN/Eden Prairie H.S.) registered a career-high 38 saves.

Brooke Keough netted Wesleyan's goal with Isabell Allieri assisting. Goalie Ryann Busillo turned asie 23 shots.

Gaffney gave Cortland the lead at 7:10 of the first period, knocking in a loose puck in front for her second goal of the season. Donegan made it a 2-0 score 9:01 into the second period when she tapped in a rebound of Kromer's shot at the left post for her fourth goal of the campaign.

Keough cut into the Cortland lead 13:21 into the third period, scoring her second goal of the season. Shortly after, the Red Dragons killed off a Wesleyan power play to hold the lead. The Cardinals pulled Busillo for an extra skater with 1:10 remaining, forcing Goergen to make three saves down the stretch as Cortland held on for the 2-1 victory.
