HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Roos dominated shots outshooting Buffalo State 14-3 in the opening period but 14 saves from Jessica Auge kept the game scoreless after one.
  • Buffalo State got on the board first at 2:04 of the second period on an Amanda Mindzora goal.
  • Canton knotted the game at one apiece at the 7:13 mark with the skater advantage. Micayla MacIntyre carried the puck the length of the ice and fed the puck cross ice from right to left to Garofalo at the high slot between the circles. Her shot rang off the left post and in. Desiree Snook also picked up an assist on the play.
  • The Roos took their first lead of the game just 30 seconds later. Garofalo fed the puck from the right point around the boards behind the net to the left side. Kelly Leathem picked up the puck and played a give-and-go behind the net with Brycelan Sunday. Leathem backhanded a shot out in front past Auge.
  • The Bengals evened the score at 2-2 at 13:03 of the middle period off a Bethany Horvatits score.
  • In what was a high scoring second period Verity Lewis gave Canton the lead for good at the 18:32 mark. Gracyn Emmerton won a faceoff at the left circle back to Lewis. She skated in from the left and beat Auge low past the blocker for the 3-2 lead headed to second intermission.
  • The Roos added a late insurance marker with just less than three minutes remaining. Sunday and Meaghan Best executed a beautiful give-and-go in tight range as Sunday beat the sprawled out goaltender glove side.
