Oswego edges Cortland 2-1

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego women's ice hockey team scored with 2:29 remaining in the third period to break a 1-1 tie and held on for a 2-1 victory versus Cortland Saturday afternoon in NEWHL action at the D.F. Stanley Arena. The Red Dragons fell to 11-3 overall and 7-3 in the conference, while the Lakers improved to 7-4-1 and 4-3-1.

Freshman Meggan Cramer (Cicero/Northwood School) scored Cortland's goal with senior Emily Kromer (Angola/Nazareth College) assisting. Freshman goalie Molly Goergen (Eden Prairie, MN/Eden Prairie H.S.) registered 30 saves.

Morgan Shines and Philomena Teggart netted the goals for Oswego. Kyleigh Grugin, Sophia Kyrkostas, Ariella Haas and Lizzie Burke each collected an assist. Goalie Joanna Hiebert made 19 saves.

After a scoreless first period, Cramer gave the Red Dragons a 1-0 lead at the 4:47 mark of the second period when she knocked in a rebound at the right side of the net. Just under three minutes later, Shines tied the score, sending the game to the third period tied at 1-1. Teggart scored the game-winning goal at 17:31, finishing off a 2-on-1 break. The Red Dragons were unable to pull Goergen for an extra skater in the closing moments, and the Lakers held on for the 2-1 win.
