Connecticut College defeats Potsdam 3-0

CASTLETON, VT - Connecticut College (3-4-2) scored three times in the first period and made it stand up in a 3-0 win over the SUNY Potsdam women's hockey team (3-8-1) in the Castleton Spartan Invitational consolation game.

Sydney Jones got the Camels on the board just 2:34 into the contest. At 8:08, Casey Godfrey added the second goal. Nearly four minutes later at 12:03, Melissa Alexander closed the scoring. All of the goals were even-strength tallies.

At the start of the second period, Bears freshman goalie Hannah Barrett (Tonawanda, N.Y./Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles) was replaced by graduate student captain Alexis Clark (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Buffalo Bisons). Clark kept Connecticut College off the board the rest of the way. She stopped all five shots that came her way in the period and Camels goaltender Abby Wieczorek turned aside four shots. The score was unchanged after 40 minutes.

Potsdam and Connecticut College combined for three power plays in the third period, but were unable to take advantage. Clark made eight more saves in the third and Wieczorek stopped seven as the 3-0 decision came to a close.

Barrett finished with eight saves and three goals allowed in 20 minutes. Clark had 13 saves in two scoreless periods. Wieczorek made 16 saves for the shutout. The Bears were 0-for-3 on the man advantage and the Camels were 0-for-4.

Potsdam is now off until the Bears host SUNY Cortland at 3 p.m. on Friday, January 7.
