4 First-Period Goals Keeps Canton Unbeaten with win over Bengals

Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton women's hockey team scored four first period goals and Sirena Alvarez recorded a shutout to lead the Roos to a 5-0 win v. Buffalo State in Northeast Women's Hockey League (NEWHL) action on Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Roos wasted no time offensively as Micayla MacIntyre tallied her sixth goal of the season just 32 seconds into the game. Verity Lewis and Desiree Snook picked up helpers on the play.
  • Just two minutes later Halle McKinnon scored her first collegiate goal off passes from Kelly Leathem and Snook.
  • Lewis was on the scoring end just over nine minutes into the opening period, her fifth tally of the season. Sarah Kosnaskie and Karena Barrett were credited with assists on the play.
  • The Roos rounded out their first period scoring at 18:07 when Iida Laitinen lit the lamp for her team-leading eighth time this season. Maggie Convery and Emmerton recorded assists on the play.
  • Canton added its final goal of the game 89 seconds into the middle period with Kosnaskie scoring off the setup from Barrett and MacIntyre.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Kosnaskie, MacIntyre and Laitinen led Canton with a goal and assist each.
  • Snook and Barrett added a game-best two helpers each.
  • Both team's penalty kill units were strong as the Roos went 7-for-7 and the Bengals were 4-for-4.
