Buffalo State Drops Non-Conference Matchup with Concordia

BUFFALO, NY – The Buffalo State women's hockey was defeated by Concordia University (WI) 6-1 on Friday evening at the Ice Arena.

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE

  • Lexi Lazore (Akwesasne, NY/Ontario Hockey Academy) scored the lone Buffalo State goal.
  • Bethany Horvatits (Elma, NY/Cazenovia Chiefs) extended her point streak to three games with an assist.
  • Amanda Mindzora (Parma, OH/Gilmour Prep Academy) recorded her first collegiate point with an assist.
  • Jessica Auge (Laingsburg, MI/Honeybaked Detroit) made 34 saves in goal for the Bengals.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Concordia scored four times in the opening period to take a 4-0 lead into the first intermission.
  • Katie Rahilly got the Falcons on the board with a goal just eight minutes into the game, sniping a shot into the top corner of the net.
  • The Falcons added three more goals in a span of just over three minutes towards the end of the period.
  • The second period was scoreless for both teams, as Auge made eight saves and stopped a Concordia breakaway opportunity.
  • Concordia scored another goal to open up a five-goal lead less than two minutes into the final period.
  • Buffalo State responded with a power-play goal as the midway point of the period approached.
  • Mindzora's initial shot was deflected on goal by Horvatits but was saved by the Falcons' goaltender. The puck dropped to Lazore's feet, who lifted it past the goalie and into the right side of the net for her first goal of the season.
  • Concordia completed the scoring with just under five minutes remaining, as Brooke Gibson scored her third goal of the game.

FOR THE FOES

  • Gibson recorded a hat trick, and also added an assist, while Amanda Bauer recorded three assists to lead the Falcons.
  • Annaline Van Hercke turned aside 25 of 26 shots for the victory in goal.
