Ganje records career high 40 saves in loss at Hamilton 

CLINTON, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville women's ice hockey team dropped a heartbreaking 4-3 decision Tuesday afternoon to host Hamilton College, as the host Continentals rallied in the third for the comeback win in Clinton.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: 

  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville women's ice hockey fell in a non-conference heartbreaker Tuesday afternoon to host Hamilton College by a 4-3 final score in Clinton, after the Continentals posted a come from behind victory. 
  • Freshman netminder Mak Ganje (Vali, Colo.) posted a collegiate high 40 saves in the loss, recording double digits each period, including 12 in the third. 
  • Three Mustangs collected scores on the day, including Rhys Brown (Kemptville, Ont.) who notched the first of the afternoon, a breakaway at the 8:02 mark of the first.  
  • Allie Davidson (Niagara Falls, Ont.) and Kate Mabey (Guelph, Ont.) were credited with the assist. 
  • Hamilton posted an equalizer 34 seconds into the second period, but the Mustangs were able to hold off the Continentals behind Ganje's 13 stops to send the game into the third knotted at one. 
  • In the third, a Hamilton hooking penalty gave the Mustangs the power play advantage, and they converted for the go ahead score as Kendra Johnston (St. Albert, Alta.) put the puck in the back of the net for the 2-1 visitor lead. 
  • Gwyneth Pritchard (Saskatoon, Sask.) made it a two-goal game for the Mustangs less than a minute later, netting the score off the feed from Davidson and Allicen Bouchard (Rockford, Ill.). 
  • Hamilton cut the lead to one at the 6:08 mark and within minutes tied the contest at three with their second tally of the period at 11:45. 
  • The hosts took their first and only lead with just under three minutes remaining on the clock and were able to hold off the Mustangs in the offensive zone to collect the win. 
  • Gab Venne registered the win for Hamilton in net, stopping a total 14 on the afternoon.

Morrisville will return to the ice Tuesday, hosting William Smith College at 7 p.m. on the Mustangs home sheet of ice.
