Red Dragons beat Alvernia 7-2

READING, PA – The Cortland women's ice hockey team broke open a 1-1 game after 20 minutes of play with three goals in the second and third periods to earn a 7-2 win at Alvernia Friday night in the season-opening game for both teams.

Graduate student Grace Schnorr (Camillus/Little Caesars) led the Red Dragons with two goals and one assist. Freshman Mia Hlasnick (Olean/Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles) also recorded three points on one goal and two assists in her first career collegiate game. Senior Katie DeVoe (Mississauga, ON/Vaughan Flames) and sophomore Jillian Hlasnick (Olean/Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles) each tallied one goal and one assist, and senior Lindsay Reyes (Chino Hills, CA/Anaheim Lady Ducks) and junior Dany Donegan (Cicero/Syracuse Nationals) scored a goal. Freshman goalie Molly Goergen (Eden Prairie, MN/Eden Prairie H.S.) registered 15 saves in her Cortland debut.

Olivia Gilida and Alex Robertson netted the goals for the Golden Wolves. Sydney Bradley and Lauren Czymek chipped in with assists. Goalie Julia Beavan made 54 saves.

Alvernia took a 1-0 lead on Gilida's goal 15:11 into the game, but Schnorr tied the game just 22 seconds later. The Red Dragons built a 4-1 lead with goals form DeVoe, Jillian Hlasnick and Donegan before Robertson scored with one second on the clock to make it a 4-2 game after two periods.

Cortland put the game away in the final 20 minutes. Mia Hlasnick scored 5:52 into the period. Schnorr followed with a power-play goal at 7:11, and Reyes completed the scoring at 17:05 for the 7-2 final.
