Cortland blanks Lebanon Valley 5-0 in pre-tourney tune-up

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Sophomore Grace Schnorr (Camillus/Little Caesars) scored early in the first period to set a Cortland single-season goal record and added two assists as the Cortland women's ice hockey team wrapped up its regular season with a 5-0 victory versus Lebanon Valley in non-conference action Sunday afternoon.

The Red Dragons improved to 14-8-3 and finished their non-conference schedule with a 9-0 record and will face Potsdam in the NEWHL Semifinals next Saturday. The Dutchmen ended the season at 6-18-1.

Freshman Amanda Gaffney (Williamsville/Amherst Knights) scored two goals, and junior Emily King (Buffalo/Buffalo Regals) and freshman Teryn Field (Cicero/Lysander Lightning) each netted a goal for Cortland. Junior Emily Rose (Clayton/Syracuse Nationals) registered two assists and six others collected one assist apiece.

Senior goalie Victoria Gibson (Essex Junction, VT/Vermont Shamrocks) registered 11 saves for the Red Dragons in posting her third shutout of the season. Junior goalie Jillian Moffat (Owen Sound, ON/Northern Cyclones) turned aside 64 shots for the Dutchmen.

Schnorr wasted little time in scoring her 15th goal of the season, finishing off a partial breakaway 3:30 into the game. The score remained 1-0 until King scored from the slot at 2:20 of the second period and Gaffney knocked in a rebound at 4:25 as the Red Dragons entered the third period with a 3-0 lead.

Gaffney made it a 4-0 score with a deflection in the slot at 12;21 of the third period, and Field completed the scoring with a deflection at the right post at 14:47 for the 5-0 final.
