Allain turns back 27 shots as Cortland edges Potsdam 1-0

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Sophomore goalie Chelsea Allain (Saratoga/Canterbury School) turned aside 27 shots, and junior Emily King (Buffalo/Buffalo Regals) scored early in the second period as the Cortland women's ice hockey team defeated Potsdam, 1-0, in NEWHL action Saturday afternoon. Allain posted her fourth shutout of the season, setting a single-season program record.

The Red Dragons improved to 10-8-3 overall and 3-8-3 in the conference, while the Bears dropped to 8-9-3 and 5-3-2.

Sophomore goalie Samantha White (Oceanside, CA/Anaheim Lady Ducks) made 34 saves for Potsdam.

After a scoreless first period, King scored the game's lone goal, her third of the season, at 1:40 of the second period when she knocked in her own rebound after Metcalfe sent her on a breakaway. Just past the midway point of the second period, the Bears had a two-player advantage on the for 16 seconds but could not capitalize as they finished the game 0-for-4 on the power play.

In the third period, Cortland outshot Potsdam, 9-7, and kept late pressure on the Bears that prevented pulling White for an extra skater.
