Allain, Cortland blank Bengals 3-0

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Sophomore goalie Chelsea Allain (Saratoga/Canterbury School) made 32 saves in posting her third shutout of the season as the Cortland women's ice hockey team defeated Buffalo St., 3-0, in NEWHL action Friday night. With the shutout, Allain tied the Cortland single-season record of three first set by Mandy Smock during the 2001-02 season.

Sophomore Grace Schnorr (Camillus/Little Caesars) led the Red Dragons (8-7-3, 1-7-3) with a goal and an assist. Freshman Quinn Metcalfe (Churchville/Rochester Monarchs) netted her first career goal, and sophomore Katie DeVoe (Mississauga, ON/Vaughan Flames) also scored a goal. Senior Katy Kennedy (East Greenbush/Troy-Albany Ice Cats), junior Emily King (Buffalo/Buffalo Regals) and freshman Amanda Gaffney (Williamsville/Amherst Knights) each collected an assist.

Sophomore goalie Bri Gawronski (Dunkirk/Buffalo Bisons) registered 27 saves for the Bengals (5-10-2, 2-7-1).

Metcalfe scored the game-winning goal on a deflection in front at 8:58 of the first period. Shortly after, Cortland killed off 1:27 of a two-skater advantage for the Bengals on the power play.

DeVoe netted her fifth goal of the season on the power play at 12:58 of the second period to put Cortland ahead 2-0. Schnorr finished the scoring with an unassisted breakaway goal, her team-high 10th of the season, at 19:24 of the third period while each team had a player in the penalty box.
