Songin opened scoring 13:47 into the first period, as Unsworth took a shot that was saved before Songin poked in the rebound. That wound up being the only goal in the first period, and the Cardinals entered the locker room with a 1-0 lead at the first intermission.

Unsworth scored at 3:05 of the second period to give Plattsburgh State a 2-0 advantage. Senior defenseman Maci Hoskins (Oklahoma City, Okla./Northwood School) passed to Songin along the right boards, and Songin sent a short pass to Unsworth. Unsworth took a shot that was saved before collecting the rebound behind the goal line. She skated around the back of the goal and looped around back into the right circle, where she wristed a shot past the goaltender high glove side.

Just 56 seconds later, sophomore forward Abby Brush (Mount Prospect, Ill./Chicago Young Americans) tallied to extend the lead even further. Sophomore forward Annie Katonka (Pittsburgh, Pa./Pittsburgh Penguins Elite) intercepted a pass in the Oswego zone and found senior forward Courtney Moriarty (Estero, Fla./Northfield Mount Hermon) in the left circle. Moriarty sent a one-time pass to Brush in the low slot, and Brush jabbed the puck between the goaltender's pads. Initially, it appeared as though the goalie made the save, but the puck squirted past the goal line. With the assist, Moriarty pushed her career point total to 133, moving into a tie for ninth in the program's record book.

Sophomore forward Kaitlin Drew-Mead (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Buffalo Bisons) added one more insurance goal for Plattsburgh State at 14:17 of the second. Senior forward Mackenzie Millen (Anchorage, Alaska/North American Hockey Academy) led a rush down the ice and passed to freshman forward Taylor Whitney (Livonia, Mich./Little Caesars) on the left wing. Whitney sent the puck toward the net, and Millen redirected the feed, only to be denied with a pad save. Drew-Mead then banged in the rebound to net her sixth goal of the season.

While the Cardinals held a 16-7 advantage in shots on goal in the third period, they were unable to add to their lead, and the 4-0 score stood up until the final horn.

Senior goaltender Kassi Abbott (Medford, Mass./Boston Shamrocks Elite) earned her NCAA Division III-leading 10th shutout of the season, making 15 saves in the win. Abbott also earned her 19th career shutout, moving into a tie for third in the program's record book. Junior goaltender Rachael Farmer turned aside 50 shots in the loss for Oswego.
