HARRISVILLE, R.I. – Senior Katy Kennedy (East Greenbush/Troy-Albany Ice Cats) tallied her first goal of the season midway through the third period to lead the Cortland women's ice hockey team to a 2-1 non-conference win at Nichols College Friday night. The Red Dragons evened their record at 5-5-3 on the season. The Bison dropped to 8-3-3.

Junior Carly Weigold (Mahopac/Millbrook Mustangs) netted her third goal of the season for Cortland with sophomores Olivia Wilburn (Stockton, CA/San Jose Sharks) and Katelinn Cummings (Johnson City/Northwood School) and freshmen Teryn Field (Cicero/Lysander Lightning) and Quinn Metcalfe (Churchville/Rochester Monarchs) each picking up an assist. Senior goalie Victoria Gibson (Essex Junction, VT/Vermont Shamrocks) made 23 saves.

Katelyn Joyal scored for Nichols. Kelly Ferreira assisted on the goal. Goalie Cassandra Goyette turned aside 36 shots.

Weigold gave the Red Dragons a 1-0 lead at 8:02 of the second period, but Joyal tied the game just 27 seconds later. Kennedy scored the game-winning goal at 9:41 of the third, and Cortland had to kill off two late power-play attempts by Nichols to seal the win.

The same two teams meet Saturday at 4:40 p.m.
