RINDGE, N.H. - The SUNY Potsdam women's hockey team (4-6-2) rallied twice, but Franklin Pierce University (9-7) scored the contest's final two goals for a 4-2 victory on Friday night. Sophomore defenseman Emily Burke (San Jose, Calif./San Jose Jr. Sharks) and junior forward Lucy Condon (Waterloo, Ontario/Waterloo Ravens) each scored for the Bears, while junior goalie Alexa Pfeiffer (Sylvania, Ohio/Little Caesar's) made 29 saves.
The Ravens jumped out in front at 4:13 of the first period. Nicole Amato made it 1-0 after a race through the neutral zone. Burke tied the game just 1:44 later as she scored from left faceoff circle. Franklin Pierce regained the lead on the power play at 15:46. Haley Parker knocked home a loose puck to make it 2-1. The score was unchanged at the break.
The Bears got even again 3:25 into the second period as Condon tipped a shot from sophomore forward Natalie Wasielewski (Carnegie, Pa./Pittsburgh Penguins Elite) past Ravens goalie Emme Ostrander. Senior captain Rylie Murray (Berkley, Mich./Honeybaked) claimed the second assist. The teams kept pressing and Alli Sugar put the Ravens back in front for good at 13:20 with a shot from the high slot. Franklin Pierce took the 3-2 lead into the second intermission.
Ann Margaret DiSciscio gave the Ravens insurance at 3:22 of the third period. Potsdam outshot Franklin Pierce 10-8 in the period, but couldn't gain any ground as Ostrander stopped each shot to close out the 4-2 victory.
Ostrander made 20 saves for the win. The Ravens outshot the Bears 33-22 on the night. Potsdam was 0-for-3 on the man advantage and Franklin Pierce finished 1-for-7.
The teams complete the weekend series tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. in New Hampshire.
