LOCATION:  Ice Arena - Buffalo, N.Y.

RECORDS:  Buffalo State (4-5-2), Franklin Pierce (8-7-0)

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Madeline Kromer (Angola, NY/Lake Shore) and Lila Toczek (Pendleton, NY/Starpoint) had a goal and an assist apiece to lead Buffalo State, while Lauren Madden (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown) added her first collegiate goal.
  • Kromer opened the scoring with her first of the season less than five minutes into the contest when her quick shot found its way through a screen and inside the near post.
  • Madden added a power-play marker with a deflection on another Kromer point shot later in the period.
  • Toczek got free on a breakaway during 4-on-4 play just over a minute later and snapped a quick shot to the back of the net high on the glove side to push the lead to 3-0 before the first intermission.
  • Franklin Pierce finally broke through with a power-play goal of its own with less than two minutes remaining in the second period.
  • The Ravens pulled within one midway through the third when the Bengals' clearing attempt was kept in at the blue line and floated through traffic and found its way into the net.
  • Buffalo State killed off a late penalty and then Bri Gawronski (Dunkirk, NY/Mt. Mercy) made an acrobatic save in the closing seconds after a defensive breakdown to preserve the win.
  • Gawronski finished with 23 saves as Buffalo State outshot Franklin Pierce, 29-25.
  • The Bengals finished 1 for 8 on the power play, and the Ravens were 1 for 6.
