No. 2/2 Plattsburgh scores 6 unanswered goals, tops Oswego 6-1

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The No. 2/2 Plattsburgh State women's ice hockey team overcame a slow start by scoring six unanswered goals in a 6-1 Northeast Women's Hockey League (NEWHL) win over Oswego State Saturday afternoon at the Marano Campus Center Arena to complete a weekend sweep of the Lakers.
 
Plattsburgh State is ranked at No. 2 in both the USCHO.com Women's Division III Top-10 Poll and the D3hockey.com Women's Top-10 Poll.
 
Sophomore forward Annie Katonka (Pittsburgh, Pa./Pittsburgh Pens Elite) finished with three points on two goals and one assist, while senior forward Courtney Moriarty (Estero, Fla./Northfield Mount Hermon) tallied three points on three assists. Freshman defenseman Hanna Rose (Chaumont, N.Y./Northwood School) scored twice, while sophomore forward Madison Walker (Denver, Colo./Lansing Spartans) and junior defenseman Hannah Kiraly (Glendale, Ariz./Northern Cyclones) also notched multiple points with a goal and an assist and two assists, respectively.
 
Plattsburgh State rises to 8-1-0 overall (6-0-0 NEWHL) with the win and next hosts Morrisville State College in a non-conference game on Wednesday, Dec. 5, at 7 p.m. Oswego falls to 5-2-1 overall (3-2-1 NEWHL) with the loss and visits Hamilton College next on Friday, Dec. 7, at 6 p.m.
 
Oswego got on the board 1:20 into the game, as freshman forward Annika Neufeld-Kreider scored on assists from junior forward Natalie Giglio and freshman defenseman Avery Webster. Rose tallied unassisted on the power play with 47 seconds left in the first, however, to tie the game.
 
Katonka buried the eventual game-winner six seconds into the second period on assists from sophomore defenseman Emma Killeen (Watertown, Conn./The Gunnery) and Walker, while Walker found the back of the net on feeds from sophomore forward Abby Brush (Mount Prospect, Ill./Chicago Young Americans) and Katonka at 4:52 of the second period. Freshman forward Moe Tsukimoto (Sapporo, Japan/Northwood School) scored on the power play with 8:17 gone in the second on assists from Kiraly and Moriarty, while Katonka netted a power-play marker of her own with 12:13 elapsed in the second to stake the Cardinals to a 5-1 advantage. Moriarty and Kiraly also earned assists on Katonka's power-play goal.
 
Rose closed out scoring 5:51 into the third, burying a goal on assists from Moriarty and senior defenseman Maci Hoskins (Oklahoma City, Okla./Northwood School).
 
Plattsburgh State finished with a 48-10 edge in shots on goal and went 3-for-5 on the power play. Oswego was scoreless in four chances with the extra skater.
 
Senior goaltender Kassi Abbott (Medford, Mass./Boston Shamrocks Elite) made nine saves in the win for the Cardinals, while Oswego's two goaltenders combined to make 42 stops in the loss for the Lakers.
