Cortland, Oswego open weekend series with 1-1 draw

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Cortland and Oswego women's ice hockey teams each netted a second-period goal as the teams skated to a 1-1 overtime tie Friday night in NEWHL action.

Sophomore Katie DeVoe (Mississauga, ON/Vaughan Flames) scored her team-high fourth goal of the season for the Red Dragons (2-3-2, 0-3-2 NEWHL), and junior Emily Rose (Clayton, Syracuse Nationals) registered an assist. Senior goalie Victoria Gibson (Essex Junction, VT/Vermont Shamrocks) turned aside 19 shots.

Emma Morisette netted the goal for the Lakers (4-0-1, 2-0-2) with Katelynn Ferguson assisting on the score. Goalie Rachael Farmer made 21 saves.

DeVoe gave Cortland a 1-0 lead just 21 seconds into the second period with a power-play goal. Morisette tied the game at 14:48 of the second. Oswego outshot the Red Dragons, 8-6, in the third period, and 2-1in overtime, but neither team could tally the game-winner.

The same teams meet at Cortland Saturday at 7 p.m.
