OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's ice hockey team defeated Potsdam, 4-2, on Saturday afternoon to conclude the regular season. Oswego's victory came on Senior Day, as the Lakers honored seniors Sarah Grupp, Victoria Blake, Laura Thacker, Olivia Ellis, Monica Cramer, Andrea Noss and Mariah Madrigal. Oswego ends the season at 11-12-2 overall and 7-8-1 in conference play, while Potsdam finishes with a 12-11-2 record and 4-10-2 in NEWHL action.

Exactly four minutes into the game, the Lakers took an early lead over the Bears. Ellis stole the puck from Potsdam behind the Bear net, skating out from behind and sending it to Natalie Giglio. Giglio then took a straight-on shot from between the faceoff circles, smacking the puck into the Potsdam goal. Ellis' assist was her 14th of the season, tying her for the team lead with Kate Randazzo.

After the Bears responded with two goals, Oswego answered with one of its own. Ellis was in on the action once again as she sent a pass to Victoria Blake, who fired at the Potsdam net. When Blake's shot deflected off the Potsdam goalie, Victoria Rankin was there to put away the rebound. Senior duo Blake and Ellis each collected assists on the goal.

In the second period, Oswego took the lead once again. During the first power-play of the afternoon, Philomena Teggart took a hard shot from near the blue line, rocketing the puck into the Potsdam net for Oswego's third goal. Jean-marie Padden and Eryn Stewart earned assists on Teggart's goal.

Oswego extended its lead in the third period. Emma Morisette was able to bring the puck in front of the Potsdam net, and when the goalie was unable to get a glove on it, Sarah Grupp stuffed it past. Grupp picked up an assist, as did Thacker.

Reigning NEWHL Goalie of the Week Madrigal played all 60 minutes in the net for the Lakers. The senior collected 25 saves in the win.

Next, the Lakers compete in the inaugural NEWHL Championship when travel to Buffalo to face second-seed Buffalo State at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
