Miranda Kolb's OT goal lifts Cortland over Potsdam 1-0

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Sophomore Miranda Kolb (Watertown/Syracuse Nationals) scored the game's lone goal 1:59 into overtime as the Cortland women's ice hockey team skated to a 1-0 victory versus Potsdam Friday afternoon in NEWHL action at Alumni Arena. The Red Dragons improved to 7-9-2 overall and 2-8-1 in the conference, while the Bears fell to 9-7-2 and 2-7-2.

Freshman Olivia Wilburn (Stockton, CA/San Jose Sharks) assisted on the game-winning goal. Sophomore goalie Rachael Farmer (Grand Island/Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles) made 27 saves in recording her second shutout of the season and her career. Freshman goalie Samantha White (Oceanside, CA/Anaheim Lady Ducks) registered 32 saves for Potsdam.

The best scoring chance through the first two periods came from Cortland sophomore Allyson Edwards (Buffalo/Buffalo Regals), who rang a shot off the crossbar from the top of the right circle. In the third period, the Red Dragons had power-play opportunities at 10:59 and 16:09 but could not convert. Then with time winding down, Farmer made an acrobatic glove save on Potsdam senior Jaci Morr (Monroe, MI/Team Detroit), who had an open one-time look from the right side with 48 seconds remaining in regulation.

In overtime, Wilburn collected the puck off the right boards and fired the puck in front where Kolb deflected a shot out of midair past White for her team-high 10th goal of the season.

The same teams meet in Potsdam on Saturday at 3 p.m.
