Cortland Hosting Oswego in NEWHL Semifinals Saturday

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The SUNY Cortland women's ice hockey team will host Oswego in the semifinals of the four-team Northeast Women's Hockey League (NEWHL) playoffs on Saturday, Feb. 25, at 3 p.m. at Alumni Arena.

Cortland (19-6-0, 14-4-0 NEWHL) is the second seed and Oswego (14-10-1, 11-6-1 NEWHL) is the third seed. Saturday's other semifinal features fourth-seeded Canton at top-seeded Plattsburgh. The NEWHL championship game will be on Saturday, March 4 at the highest remaining seed, with the winner earning an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III tournament.

Tickets for the Cortland-Oswego game are $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 5-12. Children 4 and under, and students from all NEWHL schools (with ID), will be admitted free. In addition, SUNY Cortland faculty and staff (with ID) will be admitted free courtesy of the SUNY Cortland Athletics Department.

Cortland has set a school record for wins this season. The Red Dragons are making their sixth conference postseason tournament appearance (four NEWHL, two ECAC West) and are hosting a postseason game for the first time in program history. Last year Cortland won at Oswego, 1-0 in overtime, in the NEWHL semifinals before losing at Plattsburgh, 4-3 in overtime, in the finals. Cortland also advanced to the NEWHL finals in 2019 and lost in the league semifinals in 2020. This season, Oswego has won two of its three matchups with Cortland. The Lakers won 2-1 at home and 1-0 at Cortland in mid-November, and Cortland won 2-0 at Oswego on Feb. 10.
