Plattsburgh’s Melissa Sheeran named NEWHL Player of the Year

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Plattsburgh senior forward Melissa Sheeran (Schaghticoke, NY/Millbrook School) has been selected the 2018 Northeast Women's Hockey League Player of the Year.

The league announced the honor on Tuesday, March 6. The award was voted on by the head coaches of the NEWHL.

An NEWHL All-Conference First Team member, Sheeran tops the league in points (47) and assists (29), while she ranks third in goals (18) and is tied for second in plus/minus rating with a +22 mark.

She led the Cardinals to a 6-0 win over Oswego on March 3, giving Plattsburgh the NEWHL Championship in its first year of existence.

Plattsburgh has received an automatic berth in the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament for winning the NEWHL and will attempt to capture its fifth straight national title when the 2018 tournament begins later this week.
