Canton completes weekend sweep of Anna Maria on Senior Day

Canton, NY – Maggie Convery recorded her first collegiate goal and Brooke Susac made 14 saves as the SUNY Canton women's hockey team earned a 3-1 win to complete the weekend sweep v. Anna Maria College on Senior Day on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Roos opened the scoring at 14:20 of the first period. Alexa Parigi buried her seventh goal of the season on a wrist shot top shelf from the top of the left circle. Breanna Bedborough and Hannah Desrochers were credited with assists on the play. Shots were 12-7 in favor of Canton as the hosts took a 1-0 lead into first intermission.
  • SUNY Canton dominated play in the second period owning a 30-1 shots advantage but AMCATS goaltender Julia Smith stopped all 30 shots she faced to keep the visitors within one.
  • The hosts extended the lead to 2-0 at 4:51 of the third period. Meaghan Best won a faceoff at the right circle and hit Jordan Emerson with a cross-ice pass. Her shot from the left circle was saved by Smith but Maggie Convery put home the rebound for her first collegiate goal.
  • Anna Maria got on the board just over three minutes later when Samantha Rodriguez won the puck at the near boards to Kaitlyn Korpach. She hit Meghan Sonia in the slot who recorded her second goal of the season.
  • The Roos added an insurance marker at 12:21 when Micayla Macintyre played a pass from the defensive zone to Lily Cullen at mid-ice. Cullen skated in as she lit the lamp for the second time this season.
  • Susac made 14 saves in the victory, while Smith turned aside 59 shots in the loss for the AMCATS.

The Roos recognized lone senior Brooke Susac in a pre-game ceremony on Senior Day.
