Morrisville edges Cortland; Schnorr sets Red Dragon mark

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Junior Grace Schnorr (Camillus/Little Caesars) set the Cortland modern-era career goal-scoring record in a 2-1 setback at Morrisville St. Wednesday night  in NEWHL action. Schnorr recorded her 18th goal of the season and 33rd of her two-year career as she eclipsed the previous record of 32 goals set by MaryAnn Knott from 2001-05 since the women's ice hockey program was re-instated during the 2000-01 season.

Freshmen Dany Donegan (Cicero/Syracuse Nationals) and Molly McCabe (Webster/Webster Thomas Boys H.S.) assisted on Schnorr's goal for the Red Dragons (11-5-2, 5-5-2 NEWHL). Junior goalie Chelsea Alain (Malta/Canterbury School) made 15 saves.

Rhys Brown and Alana McDonald scored goals for the Mustangs (9-9-1, 6-5-1 NEWHL), and Mackenzie Lombardi and Cassie Suran each recorded two assists. Goalie Lacey Friesen turned aside 26 shots.

After a scoreless first period, the Mustangs took a 2-0 lead with a pair of second-period goals. Brown scored just 1:29 into the period, and McDonald netted her goal at 15:14.

Schnorr tallied her record-setting goal at 4:06 of the third period to pull Cortland to within 2-1. The Red Dragons earned a late power play in the period and pulled Allain for an extra skater with 1:20 remaining but could not net the equalizer as the Mustangs held on for the 2-1 win.
