WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Morrisville and Buffalo State challenged each other throughout the first period, exchanging multiple shots on goal.
  • The Mustangs kept the pressure on as they entered the second period.  Taylor Finnie (Kamloops, B.C.) broke the scoreless dead lock with a one timer from the right point at the 2:18 mark.  Kylie Cameron (Burlington, Ont.) picked up the assist, her fifth of the season, while Finnie's goal marked a new season high from the fourth-year defenseman.
  • Morrisville looked to add to their lead two minutes later, going on the power play for the first time in the contest.  Unfortunately, the advantage was negated as the Mustangs were whistled for a penalty of their own.
  • Ultimately, the Mustangs' second goal came from another defenseman when Chyne Kennedy (Southwold, Ont.) recorded her third goal of the season with a shot taken from between the face off circles.  Forwards Mackenzie Lombardi (Hamilton, Ont.) and Maddison Devlin (Campbell River, B.C.) notched the assists.
  • Buffalo State continued to apply pressure in the Morrisville zone, but sophomore goaltender, Lacey Friesen (Marquette, Man.) was a wall, recording 26 saves for the second shut out of her career.

WHAT'S NEXT

  • The Mustangs have a quick turnaround as they host the SUNY Potsdam Bears for the third and final time this season in a key NEWHL match up.  Opening puck drop is set for 2 PM.
