Cortland doubles up William Smith 4-2 behind Schnorr's 2 goals

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Junior Grace Schnorr (Camillus/Little Caesars) scored two goals to tie the single-season program record of 15 that she set last season as the Cortland women's ice hockey team skated to a 4-2 non-conference win Tuesday afternoon over William Smith at Alumni Arena. The Red Dragons improved to 10-3-1 with the win, while the Herons dropped to 7-7.

Freshmen Dany Donegan (Cicero/Syracuse Nationals) and Molly McCabe (Webster/Webster Thomas H.S. Boys) each contributed one goal and one assist for Cortland with McCabe's being the first of her career. Freshman Jayden Kelley (East Berne/CP Dynamo) recorded two assists, and juniors Katie DeVoe (Mississauga, ON/Vaughan Vipers) and Olivia Wilburn (Stockton, CA/San Jose Sharks) and freshman Elena Eichmann (Fairport/Syracuse Nationals) collected one assist apiece. Junior goalie Chelsea Allain (Malta/Canterbury School) registered 21 saves.

Freshmen Alisa Canney (Burlington, MA/Northfield Mount Hermon) and Mia LaPlante (Framingham, MA/Brooks School) netted the goals for William Smith. Senior Gina Scibetta (Brewerton/Central Square) and freshman Julianna Gong (Hingham, MA/St. Mark's School) each recorded two assists. Junior goalie Olivia Williams (Toronto, ON/Branksome Hall) made 36 saves.

The Herons took a 1-0 lead at 12:40 of the first period on Canney's wrist shot rom the lft side. McCabe tied the game just under six minutes later when she knocked in a loose puck in front. The Red Dragons took a 3-1 lead after two periods as Schnorr scored right in front on the power play at 17:15 and Donegan fired a rebound into the open net right before the horn at 19:59.

Schnorr put the Red Dragons ahead with her record-tying 15th goal of the season on a wrist shot from the right circle at the 7:08 mark of the third period. LaPlante pulled William Smith to within 4-2 at 14:19 on her deflection in front. The Herons pulled Williams for an extra skater with 2:46 remaining but could not cut into their deficit s Cortland earned the 4-2 victory.
