CORTLAND, N.Y. – The nationally top-ranked Plattsburgh women's ice hockey team scored three power-play goals, including two in the third period to break open a close game, in defeating Cortland, 5-2, Friday night in a penalty-filled NEWHL game at Alumni Arena.

Freshmen Martha Dzieniszewska (Old Bridge, NJ/New Jersey Colonials) and Dany Donegan (Cicero/Syracuse Nationals) scored goals for the Red Dragons (6-3-1, 4-3-1 NEWHL). Senior Abbey Paduano (Massena/Massena H.S.), sophomore Teryn Field (Cicero/Lysander Lightning) and freshman Elena Eichmann (Fairport/Syracuse Nationals) each recorded an assist. Junior goalie Chelsea Allain (Malta/The Canterbury School) registered 31 saves.

Sophomore Taylor Whitney (Livonia, MI/Little Caesars) led the Cardinals (10-1, 8-0) with a pair of goals. Sophomore Nicole Unsworth (Milwaukee, WI/East Coast Wizards) tallied one goal and one assist, juniors Annie Katonka (Pittsburgh, PA/Pittsburgh Penguins Elite) and Erin McArdle (Macomb, MI/Belle Tire) each netted a goal, senior Hannah Kiraly (Glendale, AZ/Northen Cyclones) collected two assists and six others chipped in with one assist apiece. Freshman goalie Lilla Nease (Lake Forest, CA/Anaheim Lady Ducks) made 16 saves.

Plattsburgh built a 3-0 lead after one period, but the Red Dragons made it a 3-1 game after 40 minutes of play on Dzieniszewska's second goal of the season at 7:07 of the second period, sliding a shot between Nease's pads. Donegan made it a 3-2 game 3:38 into the third period with a one-time shot on the right side of the net.

The Cardinals then went ahead 4-2 at 9:07 with a power-play goal with a two-skater advantage and added another power-play goal 50 seconds later for the 5-2 final.
