PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. — No. 1 Plattsburgh State women's ice hockey received goals from six different players in a 7-0 victory over SUNY Potsdam in Northeastern Women's Hockey League (NEWHL) on Wednesday night at the Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena. 

Plattsburgh State (9-1-0, 7-0-0 NEWHL) scored three goals in the first period, three goals in the second period and one goal in the third period to defeat SUNY Potsdam (4-5-0, 3-5-0 NEWHL) 7-0. Junior forward Abby Brush (Mount Prospect, Ill./Chicago Young Americans) scored twice, while sophomore forward Taylor Whitney (Livonia, Mich./Little Caesars), junior forward Kaitlin Drew-Mead(Niagara Falls, N.Y./Buffalo Bisons), senior forward Sarah Wolf (Fairport, N.Y./Boston Shamrocks Elite), freshman forward Ivy Boric (Newport Beach, Calif./Anaheim Lady Ducks), and sophomore forward Sara Krauseneck each tallied one goal. 

Whitney got the scoring started for Plattsburgh State with her sixth goal of the season at 7:16 of the first period. Junior defenseman and captain Erin McArdle (Macomb, Mich./Belle Tire) wristed a shot from the right point to the front of the net where it was redirected in by Whitney for the goal. McArdle and sophomore forward Nicole Unsworth(Milwaukee, Wis./East Coast Wizards) tallied the assists. 

Brush then made the score 2-0 with her first goal of the night at 13:04 of the first period. Brush forced a turnover behind the Potsdam net, skated to the right side of the net and snuck the puck past the Potsdam goaltender for the unassisted goal.  

Capping off the scoring in the first period was Drew-Mead with a goal that made the score 3-0 at the 18:43 mark. Wolf took a shot that was initially saved, but Drew-Mead chipped in the rebound over the goaltender's right pad for her sixth goal of the season. Wolf tallied the lone assist on the play.

In the second period, Wolf made the score 4-0 with her second goal of the season at the 1:55 mark. Wolf skated the puck into the left side of the Potsdam defensive zone and wired a wrist shot from the left face-off dot into the upper-right corner of the net. Sophomore forward Holly Schmelzer (East Amherst, N.Y./Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles) and senior defenseman Hannah Kiraly (Glendale, Ariz./Northern Cyclones) tallied the assists.  

Boric then tallied her fourth goal of the season at the 13:01 mark of the second period. Boric took an outlet pass from sophomore forward Sierra Benjamin (Palm Coast, Fla./Northwood School) and skated into the slot in the Potsdam zone. Boric then dropped the pass to Walker on her right and darted to the left side of the crease where she one-timed a return pass from Walker for the goal. Walker and Benjamin assisted on the goal that made the score 5-0.

At 17:28 of the second period, Brush tallied her second goal of the game and her fourth of the season to push the Cardinals' lead to 6-0. McArdle took a slap shot from the right point that went wide to the right of the net. However, the puck bounced off the end boards and to the left of the net where Brush shot in the rebound before the goaltender could react. McArdle and senior defenseman Jen Manning (Marlborough, Mass./Massachusetts Spitfires) assisted on the play.

Krauseneck capped off the scoring with her sixth goal of the season at 7:07 of the third period. Krauseneck walked the puck out from behind the net to the bottom of the left circle where she released a wrist shot that went in over the goaltender's right shoulder. Freshman forward Tatem Cheney (Ottawa, Ontario/Ottawa Lady 67's) garnered her first collegiate assist and point on the goal.

Plattsburgh State's sophomore goaltender Ashley Davis (Winterville, N.C./Northwood School) (5-0-0) stopped all 14 shots she faced for her second shutout of the season. Kayla McCabe (0-2-0) played the first two periods in net for the Bears — allowing six goals and making 36 saves. Alex Pfeiffer surrendered one goal and made 16 saves as she played the third period in relief of McCabe.

Plattsburgh State outshot Potsdam 59-14. 

Neither team converted on the power play as Plattsburgh State went 0-of-2 and Potsdam was 0-of-3. 

Plattsburgh State plays its final game of the 2019 calendar year against NEWHL foe SUNY Cortland at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6, in Cortland, N.Y. Potsdam faces Hamilton College in a non-conference game at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, in Potsdam, N.Y.
