MORRISVILLE, N.Y.-Three Bears scored as the SUNY Potsdam women's hockey team (4-3, 3-3 NEWHL) defeated Morrisville State (3-3-1, 2-2-1) 3-1 on Friday evening. Senior forward Miranda Kolb (Watertown, N.Y./SUNY Cortland), junior forward Alexis Clark (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Buffalo Bisons) and junior defenseman Keira Thacker (Oakville, Ontario/Hamilton Hawks) each scored for the Bears and senior captain Alexa Pfeiffer (Sylvania, Ohio/Little Caesar's) made 28 saves for her 23rd career win.

Power plays made the difference in an otherwise even first period. The Mustangs were unable to capitalize on their first man advantage at 8:21, but then took back-to-back penalties at 17:42 and 18:59. Kolb ended the first early with her goal at 18:21 with assists from senior captain Shelbi Thacker (Chesterfield, Mich./Honeybaked) and junior forward Natalie Wasielewski (Carnegie, Pa./Pittsburgh Penguin Elite). The Bears outshot Morrisville 7-5 in the first and led 1-0 at the break.

There was more balanced play in the second period. Morrisville outshot Potsdam 9-8 and was 0-for-1 on the only power play of the period. As the clock wound down, Clark struck to make it a 2-0 contest at the 16:19 mark. Junior forward Allie Banas (Buffalo, N.Y/Buffalo Bisons) assisted on the goal.

Thacker made it a 3-0 6:28 into the third period, but the Mustangs controlled the play the rest of the way. Morrisville used three power plays to outshoot Potsdam 15-3 in the last 20 minutes. The Mustangs finally solved Pfeiffer at the 10:38 mark when Maddison Devlin struck on the power play. Morrisville continued to press and pulled goalie Sissy Harman with 1:27 left, but couldn't get any closer.

Harman finished with 15 saves. Morrisville outshot Potsdam 29-18 and was 1-for-5 on the power play. The Bears were 1-for-2.
