POTSDAM, N.Y. – Cortland scored a goal in each period and Chelsea Allain (Malta/Canterbury School) made 15 saves for her first shutout of the season as the Red Dragons defeated host Potsdam, 3-0, in NEWHL action. Cortland improved to 4-0 on the year, both overall and in league play, while the Bears fell to 2-2 both overall and in the NEWHL.

Cortland took a 1-0 lead with 4:38 left in the first period when Quinn Metcalfe (Churchville/Rochester Monarchs) carried the puck from the red line up the left side and took a slapshot from the left circle that got through Potsdam goalie Alexa Pfeiffer. The play was set up by passes from Lindsay Reyes (Chino Hills, CA/Anaheim Lady Ducks) and Allyson Edwards (Buffalo/Buffalo Regals).

Dany Donegan (Cicero/Syracuse Nationals) knocked in a rebound 8:21 into the second period to extend the lead to 2-0. Olivia Wilburn (Stockton, CA/San Jose Sharks) and Elena Eichmann (Fairport/Syracuse Nationals) picked up assists on the play.

The Red Dragons closed the scoring with 1:37 left in the contest on a give-and-go play between Grace Schnorr (Camillus/Little Caesars) and Katie DeVoe (Mississauga, ON/Vaughan Flames). Schnorr passed the puck to DeVoe on the left side, who then found Schnorr cutting between the circles. Schnorr buried the straight-on shot for her team-high fourth goal of the season.

Allain, who registered five shutouts last season, made eight of her 15 saves in the opening period. Pfeiffer finished with 31 saves for the Bears as Cortland held a 34-15 advantage in shots on goal.

Cortland continues NEWHL play when it hosts Morrisville State on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
