CORTLAND, N.Y. - The Cortland women's ice hockey team has advanced to the championship game of the Northeast Women's Hockey League (NEWHL) and will travel to top-seeded Plattsburgh Saturday at 3 p.m. with an automatic NCAA Div. III playoff berth on the line.

Cortland, which has posted a 13-3-1 record in its last 17 games and owns a six-game winning streak, improved to 15-8-3 on the season with a 3-2 win at Potsdam in the league semifinals last Saturday. The third-seeded Red Dragons, who have set a school record for victories in a season since the program restarted in 2000-01, opened up a 3-0 lead after two periods and held on for the victory.

Junior Emily King (Buffalo/Buffalo Regals) led Cortland with two goals and an assist. Junior Allyson Edwards (Buffalo/Buffalo Regals) tallied a goal and an assist and junior Emily Rose (Clayton/Syracuse Nationals), sophomore Olivia Wilburn (Stockton, CA/San Jose Sharks) and freshman Quinn Metcalfe (Churchill/Rochester Monarchs) each added an assist.

Sophomore goalie Chelsea Allain (Saratoga/Canterbury School) made 32 saves in posting her 10th win of the season, a single-season program record. Allain also set the single-season record for shutouts in 2018-19 with five. She owns an overall 10-2-1 record with a 1.46 GAA, 385 saves and a .951 save percentage.

Sophomore Grace Schnorr (Camillus/Little Caesars) leads the Red Dragons with 24 points on a school-record 15 goals and nine assists. Schnorr, in her first season of collegiate ice hockey, was a second team All-NEWHL selection and named to the NEWHL All-Rookie Team. Her 24 points are the third best in program history since 2000-01.

Freshman Amanda Gaffney (Williamsville/Amherst Knights) also earned a spot on the NEWHL All-Rookie Team after scoring 16 points on six goals and 10 assists. Rose and senior Samantha Pippin (Allen Park, MI/Team Detroit) lead the defense, scoring 13 and 11 points, respectively.

The Red Dragons finished 5-8-3 in league play for 13 points. Plattsburgh posted a perfect 16-0 record in conference play and enter the championship 24-2 overall.

Cortland is making its third postseason appearance in the last five years. The Red Dragons lost in the ECAC West quarterfinals in both 2015 and 2016. The NEWHL formed in the 2017-18 school year with the five SUNY schools (Cortland, Potsdam, Oswego, Buffalo St. and Plattsburgh) who were in the ECAC West before that conference disbanded. The NEWHL will expand to seven teams next season with the addition of Morrisville and Canton.
