CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Oswego women's ice hockey team erased a 2-0 deficit with goals late in the second period and early in the third period to play to a 2-2 overtime tie at Cortland Wednesday night in NEWHL action at Alumni Arena.
Senior Emily King (Buffalo/Buffalo Regals) and junior Grace Schnorr (Camillus/Little Caesars) each netted a goal for the Red Dragons (11-4-2, 5-4-2 NEWHL). Schnorr's goal was the 32nd of her career and tied the career mark at Cortland since the 2000-01 season. MaryAnn Knott set the original record from 2001-05.
Juniors Katie DeVoe (Mississauga, ON/Vaughn Vipers) and Katelinn Cummings (Johnson City/Northwood School) collected one assist apiece for Cortland. Junior goalie Chelsea Allain (Malta/Canterbury School) turned aside 27 shots.
Senior Eryn Stewart (Stonewall, MB/Central Plains Midget Capitals) and freshman Megan Teachout (Auburn/Skaneateles H.S.) led the Lakers (9-4-2, 6-3-2 NEWHL) with one goal and one assist each, and freshman Kyleigh Grugin (Knoxville, TN/Pittsburgh Penguins Elite) added an assist. Senior goalie Rachael Farmer (Grand Island/Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles) made 22 saves.
After a scoreless first period, King gave the Red Dragons the lead at 4:54 of the second period when she stole the puck near the end line and beat Farmer one-on-one in front. Schnorr made it a 2-0 score at 13:20 of the second on a one-time shot from the left side off a feed from DeVoe.
Teachout cut the Oswego deficit to 2-1 with a wrist shot on a 2-on-1 break at 16:56. Stewart tied the game just 2:39 of the third period on a rebound in front. Neither team could break the tie in the remainder of regulation and each team managed two shots on goal during the five-minute OT period.
